Thermal Comfort Visualization ?

Ciao all,

I setup a couple of emonTH to measure temperature and humidity inside and outside home.

Now I wish to represent thermal comfort with a synthetic visualization like "standard" comfort representation of relative room humidity vs room air temperature:

Any idea on how I could create similar visualization with emoncms ?

Thanks in advance !

Regards,

Emiliano.

Re: Thermal Comfort Visualization ?

Hi,

Great idea !

I think it is not possible now to draw such a XY graph using the available visualization in EmonCMS.

I think it is worth developping a specific EmonCMS module to draw that kind of graph and also a graph about the adaptative comfort, also known as Brager's graph .

I'm busy now, but I can do it in November as I have already done similar modules.

Re: Thermal Comfort Visualization ?

Hi,

Thermal comfort is a very subjective concept and it is not related only to humidity and air temperature.  So,  I suggest to put several configurable thermal zone on the XY graph. I would rather do a XY graph with themp and humidity than a psychrometric graph which is harder to read ( and to code ...)

I will start that dev beginning of November.

Any idea welcomed !

Thanks Eric !

Do you think it would be possibile to include a background image To the XY graph ?

By default it could be the following:

Re: Thermal Comfort Visualization ?

Hi,

I will include several thermal zones. Some default zones like the one you mentioned and also a custom zone defined by the user. For each, a tick box will show/hide the zone on the graph.

Ciao Eric,

just curious if you started development.

Thanks,

Emiliano.

Re: Thermal Comfort Visualization ?

Hi,

Attached is a first draft.

I named it "comfort module" but keep in mind that the internal temperature and the relative humidity are only two of the six parameter involved in the thermal comfort : air temperature, mean radiant temperature, air speed, humidity, metabolic rate, and clothing level.

When using those XY graphs that only deals with temp and humidity, you must choose a comfort zone that take into account the others 4 parameters. I put 3 pre-defined comfort zones that corresponds to some standards : ASHRAE (US) and COSTIC (FR). One can see that there are really different ... Thermal comfort is also a very subjective/cultural matter. So, I also added two custom zones that you can define using the CBE thermal comfort tool.

Let me know.

EDIT : to install this module :
   1. unzip the attached archive into the driectory xxx/emoncms/Modules
   2. Log in your emoncms server as admin.
   3. Go in the admin section (top right corner)
   4. Click on the "Update and check" button.

Re: Thermal Comfort Visualization ?

I didn't implement the adaptive comfort graph as it take into account the operative temperature which is not possible to evaluate easily.

Re: Thermal Comfort Visualization ?

Thanks, wonderful !
How can I sue it on emoncms.org ? Any plans of deployment on it ?

Thanks again !

Re: Thermal Comfort Visualization ?

Hi,

You can install this module on your own EmonCMS server :
   1. unzip the attached archive into the directory xxx/emoncms/Modules
   2. Log in your emoncms server as admin.
   3. Go in the admin section (top right corner)
   4. Click on the "Update and check" button.

Alternatively, I guess you must ask Trystan to install it on emoncms.org.
